In memory of Themba

A wild heart, gone too soon.

The Surgery

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Themba, an 11-month-old wild cheetah who came into our care just two weeks ago.

She arrived after suffering a serious fracture to her humerus — a silent victim of the increasing risks faced by wildlife. Though her time with us was short, every moment was filled with the hope that she might return to the wild where she belonged.

Themba underwent surgery in the hospital, and despite the incredible efforts of the veterinary team, she did not survive. She passed surrounded by those who fought for her life with care, tenderness, and respect.

Her name means hope, and that is what she gave us — even in her fragility. Themba reminded us why we do what we do, and why every single life matters.

She was wild. She was strong. She was loved.
And now, she runs free again.

Rest in peace, Themba. We will carry your story forward.
